Emily

Hi, I’m Emily! Until two years ago, I was a couples and family therapist that battled mental illness and excuses all across our great nation. Now, I’m a freelance writer and comedy producer. I believe happiness is hip, and for this reason, I made a terrible goth in high school. Here at Gynomite, I take pop culture seriously and think psychology is fun. I write about me, movies, and comedy, all while trying to take a crack at readers’ emotional dilemmas in my column, Ask Gynomite! You can email any quandary to askgynomite@gmail.com (all questions kept confidential) and you can reach Gynomite’s alter-ego Emily V Gordon, at emilyvgordon@gmail.com. I have written weird stuff for Bust magazine, Dame magazine, and the now defunct Jane magazine. I currently write for the manga Neko Ramen, and I’m a regular contributor to Lemondrop (which is now called MyDaily), Nerdist, Huffington Post, and TV.com. I have also been known to write for Premiere and Guyspeak, and my writing has been reposted to YourTango, Jezebel, and The Frisky. If you need a writer that can speak to both the icky squishy side of love and relationships, as well as the cold hard clinical facts, I’m you’re girl. But if you need something other than writing… I’m the Program Director for Chris Hardwick’s Nerdist Theater at Meltdown, bringing you nerdiness and comediness under one roof, as well as the loving producer-mother of the weekly comedy show The Meltdown with Jonah and Kumail- all happening in the back of Meltdown Comics on Sunset Blvd! I’m also a producer on G4tv.com’s weekly show Feedback, where I talk video games. By the way, I am not the lovely and talented Emily Gordon of EmDashes, and I am not, unfortunately, connected to the book Gynomite: Fearless Feminist Porn. The origin story of the name Gynomite is here.

Hi everyone! Just wanted to do a quick self-congratulatory happy dance- NerdMelt’s Program Director Emily (ahem, that would be me) and husband and cohost of The Meltdown Kumail were profiled in LA Weekly’s People of LA 2012 issue!

Check out our family portrait and read the profile here, and enjoy talk of The Meltdown with Jonah and Kumail, the theater as a whole, and descriptions of our hair and eyebrows!

It’s a rare treat for Paul and Storm fans as they descend on NerdMelt Theater for the first time for a live recording of their long-running and longer-betitled podcast…

PAUL AND STORM TALK ABOUT SOME STUFF FOR FIVE TO TEN MINUTES (ON AVERAGE)!

Will there be music? Yes! Will there be lengthy discussions of minimally-relevant topics and personal grudges? You bet! Will there be special guests? Maybe/hopefully/probably!

Thursday at 8pm! Get your tickets here!

Every week since we started in October 2010, Ed Salazar, patron saint of The Meltdown with Jonah and Kumail, high fives everyone who is waiting in line to get in to the show. This video is a full almost 3 minutes of that. If you haven’t ever been to The Meltdown, in addition to the amazing lineups, this is what you’re really missing.

Video shot by Drew Spears.

After getting off stage at The Meltdown, comedian Jerrod Carmichael decides to show me how good he is at the Michael Jackson lean.

And he’s good.

Sorry the video is so dark, but sometimes you can’t control magic.

Get ready for the only show in our theater that takes you in a way-back machine to the weird telethons of yesteryear!

Join us for TELETHON!, a comedy variety show set in the 1980s featuring live sketch, video commercials, stand-up and musical acts. This months charity: “Save Harperton’s Recreation Center”, featuring the comedic stylings of Hampton Yount, Steve Benaquist, and Five Second Films!

FRIDAY at 8:30pm!

Jump for footage of past Telethons!

We’re honestly trying to decide if we should shut down the theater for the night on July 20th for this.

It’s the Walking The Room 100th episode show, so they’ve invited back some of our favorite guests.
Greg Behrendt and Dave Anthony welcome Patton Oswalt, Brian Posehn, Karen Kilgariff and Paul Gilmartin.
Friday, April 20th at 8pm at NerdMelt!
Tickets only available at this link, and a limited amount will be available at the door!
