Emily

Hi, I’m Emily! Until two years ago, I was a couples and family therapist that battled mental illness and excuses all across our great nation. Now, I’m a freelance writer and comedy producer. I believe happiness is hip, and for this reason, I made a terrible goth in high school. Here at Gynomite, I take pop culture seriously and think psychology is fun. I write about me, movies, and comedy, all while trying to take a crack at readers’ emotional dilemmas in my column, Ask Gynomite! You can email any quandary to askgynomite@gmail.com (all questions kept confidential) and you can reach Gynomite’s alter-ego Emily V Gordon, at emilyvgordon@gmail.com. I have written weird stuff for Bust magazine, Dame magazine, and the now defunct Jane magazine. I currently write for the manga Neko Ramen, and I’m a regular contributor to Lemondrop (which is now called MyDaily), Nerdist, Huffington Post, and TV.com. I have also been known to write for Premiere and Guyspeak, and my writing has been reposted to YourTango, Jezebel, and The Frisky. If you need a writer that can speak to both the icky squishy side of love and relationships, as well as the cold hard clinical facts, I’m you’re girl. But if you need something other than writing… I’m the Program Director for Chris Hardwick’s Nerdist Theater at Meltdown, bringing you nerdiness and comediness under one roof, as well as the loving producer-mother of the weekly comedy show The Meltdown with Jonah and Kumail- all happening in the back of Meltdown Comics on Sunset Blvd! I’m also a producer on G4tv.com’s weekly show Feedback, where I talk video games. By the way, I am not the lovely and talented Emily Gordon of EmDashes, and I am not, unfortunately, connected to the book Gynomite: Fearless Feminist Porn. The origin story of the name Gynomite is here.

Guess what? Comedy Central has ordered a pilot of The Meltdown with Jonah and Kumail!

We’ll be producing it with Red Hour Films (home of our brother from another mother Mike Rosenstein), and the legendary Lance Bangs will be directing!

Exciting, huh? Well, if you’re one of our beloved audience members, you get to be involved!

On Wednesday, February 13th, we will be taping two back to back Meltdown shows with the same comedians for our pilot, and we want you to be in the audience for it! Space will be limited and you’ll need to arrive a few minutes before showtime, but other than that, the shows will be the same as usual- we’ll just need your ridiculously attractive faces to be laughing as usual!

The shows will be at Meltdown Comics/NerdMelt (as always) at 7522 W Sunset Blvd

  • February 13th at 7pm- you must be in line at 6:30pm to be in the audience
  • February 13th at 9:30pm- you must be in line by 9pm to be in the audience

 GOLD STAR CENTURION PARTICIPATION

We are looking for about 25 audience members to be with us for both shows and be seated in the front row (thanks to HOLLYWOOD MAGIC!). These 25 souls will be fed and taken care of, and will most likely be on camera, but you must be available for the entire night.

To be in the audience, here is what you must do:

Email meltdowntaping@gmail.com, and put in the subject line either:

  • 7pm show
  • OR
  • 9:30pm show
  • OR
  • 7pm and 9:30pm show

In the body of the email, please put the names of the people that will be coming, along with your name. You will receive a response email with more details. We couldn’t do any of this without you, so we want to celebrate our big night with you! We love you!

Also, if you’re curious, we’ll have Pete Holmes, Natasha Leggero and more! Amazing, huh?

Hi everyone, it’s Emily! We just got the wonderful news today that our comedy show, The Meltdown with Jonah and Kumail, has been chosen as the best standup show in LA by LA Weekly, and we are pleased as punch!

We’ve never wanted anything out of this show other than to have fun, show other people a good time, and showcase the people who make us laugh, and anything outside of that has just been sweet sweet frosting on an already amazing cake.

Thank you to Meltdown Comics, our spirit guide/tech/high fiver Ed Salazar, to hosts Jonah and Kumail for their undying love for each other, and to everyone who makes this show possible every week. When we started, Ed and I were the only employees, and now we have a staff of five hardworking nerds! (Aaron, Todd, Matthew, Natalie, and Michael)

We love you all and we promise, we’ll always work hard to make The Meltdown the best it can possibly be.
