Hi everyone! I am the Program Director at the NerdMelt Showroom. I also write and produce comedy, curate art shows, make complex mediocre mixed drinks, and arrange pot lucks. I love to cook and bake and I am Midwestern and very motherly, so I will feed you. Before I followed my heart to the comedy world, I was a printmaker and an archivist. I've been married for longer than you think and am the loving mother of two cats (both adopted).

NerdMelt Showroom is happy to announce that we will be hosting one night of this year’s March Comedy Madness 2014 on March 13th at 7pm, brought to you by Like2Laugh!

In honor of the NCAA Basketball Tournament, 100s and eventually 64 bracketed comedians will go one-on-one in the 8th Annual March Comedy Madness single elimination comedy competition refereed by Josh Filipowski of Like2Laugh.com. In the first round, two comedians perform their best minute of stand-up head-to-head and then the audience, by applause, decides the winner. As the field is narrowed down, the sets get longer and more hilarious, until we crown the 2014 March Comedy Madness Champion!

Past winners include: Julian McCullough (Comedy Central Presents), Reese Waters (Comedy Central’s Live at Gotham), Myq Kaplan (NBC’s Last Comic Standing), Sam Morril (Comedy Central’s Comic to Watch), Samba Schutte (NBC’s Fatal Encounters), Adam Yenser (Conan) and Nick Cobb (Comedy Central’s Live at Gotham)!

Ticket prices and times vary and will be available online soon.

How does one advance?
After each pair performs, the audience determines the winner by applause and our trusty decibel meter. Final rounds are determined by ballot and industry judges.

Is there a bringer requirement?
Not at all, but it’s an amazing show – we hope you’ll help promote it.

So wait… the comedian who brings the most friends wins?

Nope. If someone has 10 friends in an audience of 100, 90% of the audience is still up for grabs.  Be funny. Promote the show. And may the funniest advance.

Do comedians need to pay?
If new to Like2Laugh the submission fee is $10 until2/15/14. ($20 until3/1/14) If already registered there is no fee.

What if I cannot make all dates?

You must be available for your prelim show and the Final Four 3/15/14

Greetings NerdMelt friends and fans:

 

We are proud to introduce you to  Team Nerdmelt, a group of NerdMelt staff and friends who will be growing mustaches for the charity Movember raising money for men’s health.  You can support the team by donating or by joining the team yourself if you want to be a part of the fun at http://moteam.co/team-nerdmelt.  

 

We will also be hosting a big charity show to celebrate the last day of the drive on November 30th.  
The Movember NerdMelt Comedy Show is happening Saturday, November 30th at 8:00 p.m.  100% of the ticket sales will be going towards our team efforts, so please help spread the word!  It’s going to be a secondary way we can solicit donations, so your personal efforts plus helping sell tickets is going to go a long way.

What exactly is Movember, you ask?
A global fundraising initiative where dudes around the world grow mustaches, and raise money for research on testicular cancer and prostate cancer, as well as mental health and men’s health at large.  Testicular cancer is the most common form of cancer for men ages 20-39; prostate cancer is the most common for men ages 50 and over.

 

Do I have to be a dude to join Team Nerdmelt?
No.  You can join our team no matter what your gender.  I want this to be as inclusive as possible amongst our staff, performers, and fans.  Also, the good folks at Movember HQ have got some nice perks for our female and transgender team members.

 

Do I HAVE to grow a mustache?  I love me my beard.
We’re being super-flexible on this in the name of inclusivity.  While it’d be great for you to grow only a mustache, if you’d prefer a beard that’s fine.  What’s more important is increasing our numbers and raising as much money as possible.

If I join, how much money do I have to raise?
We’re asking that each member set a minimum of $20-$30 total in donations from friends, family, and colleagues.  If you can do more, awesome!  But please aim to reach that minimum by the end of the month.

Holy moly, you guys, we are so happy and honored to be voted LA Weekly’s Best Comedy Club in L.A. We wanted to send you all a huge thank you and a big virtual hug for helping make us number one. Thank you to everyone who comes out to supports us week after week, night after night, thank you to our amazing crew who bust their butts to make this place shine, thank you to all the incredible talent who grace our stage and make us laugh, thank you to all the producers for keeping shit running pro, you all are the best. Meltdown Comics friends Amity and American Cinematheque announce Beyond Fest!

Inaugural Genre Film Festival Coming to the Egyptian Theatre in October Italian Prog Rock Pioneers GOBLIN to Perform First Ever LA Show on October 22nd with Rare Screening of a 35mm Print of Dario Argento’s DEEP RED.

Creative collective Amity and the American Cinematheque announced today that they are partnering to create Beyond Fest, a festival featuring the best in world genre programming, October 13 – 27, 2013 at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood.

Dedicated to delivering the elite in horror, sci-fi, fantasy, and badass cinema, Beyond Fest will globally program a diverse and eclectic mix of gala premieres, rare retrospectives, and special events, all of which are anchored in bringing firsts to the community of genre fans in Los Angeles. Beyond Fest’s programming slate launches with the announcement of the first Los Angeles performance of Italian Prog Rock pioneers Goblin, who rose to cult fame through their work with horror maestro Dario Argento.

“We’ve always wanted to bring a world-class genre festival to Los Angeles, so we figured we’d do something about it with Beyond Fest,” said Christian Parkes, principle at Amity. “As fans ourselves we want to create something that is comparable to the very best festivals out there, and partnering with the American Cinematheque allows us to do exactly that: we want to give the film community here direct access to what others are seeing around the world.”

“There are so many great films being produced in every corner of the world, and we want to reflect that when programming Beyond Fest,” said Grant Moninger, American Cinematheque programmer. “By focusing on world cinema, it gives us the opportunity not only to select the very best films out there, but it also allows us to program films that might not be seen in a theater in the US.”

Reflecting Beyond Fest’s  commitment to original and diverse programming is the announcement of Goblin  performing on October 22nd at the Egyptian Theatre. Playing Los Angeles for the first time in their 40 year history, Goblin will perform a full, live set pulled from their most iconic scores, including: Dario Argento’s giallo classics Suspiria, Tenebrae, and Deep Red, and George A. Romero’s seminal Dawn of the Dead. Immediately following Goblin’s performance will be an incredibly rare 35mm screening of Argento’s 1975 masterpiece, Deep Red.

To celebrate Goblin’s first show in Los Angeles, co promoters Death Waltz Records is releasing a tour-exclusive EP featuring four brand new versions of the Goblin classics Suspiria, Tenebrae, Profondo Rosso  &  Roller. These re-recorded versions by the recently reunited band not only manage to capture the spirit of the original recordings but instill them with an urgency and intensity that is truly representative of their recent live performances. The EP will only be available on the US tour and will be pressed on blood red 180g vinyl featuring exclusively commissioned artwork by legendary poster artist Graham Humphreys (Evil Dead, A Nightmare  On Elm Street). Beyond Fest is also producing a limited edition poster for the event. Designed by Graham Humphreys, the poster will draft off of the artwork featured on the Death Waltz Records EP and is available exclusively at the show.

TICKETS for GOBLIN go on sale on Saturday, June 29th at 10 AM through Brown Paper Tickets (http://www.brownpapertickets.com). There are two tickets options available: VIP and General Admission.

VIP tickets are priced at $75 (plus booking fee) and limited to 65 tickets. VIP tickets include: access to band soundcheck, pre show meet and greet with the band, commemorative event poster signed by Graham Humphreys (variant version of that detailed above), and first entry into theater for the live performance and Deep Red screening. General admission tickets are priced at $30 (plus booking fee) and provide access to the live performance and Deep Red screening.
